Syrian Sovereign Fund Reviews Al Alamiya Oil Facility Development and Capacity Expansion in Hama

The Syrian Sovereign Fund reviewed current production and development plans at the Al Alamiya Oil Industry Facility in Hama during a field visit conducted approximately four months after Tiryaki Syria assumed responsibility for managing and operating the facility under a strategic cooperation and investment agreement.

The visit formed part of the Fund’s regular monitoring of its industrial facilities and assessed progress in implementing the partnership signed in June 2026. The 10-year agreement involves an operating investment of approximately USD 80 million and aims to return the facility to production, develop its capabilities, and strengthen the contribution of agricultural processing industries to Syria’s food security.

Basel Ayyoub, Head of the Food and Feed Sector at the Syrian Sovereign Fund, said the visit was conducted under the Fund’s annual plan for monitoring its factories. He noted that the cooperation with Tiryaki Syria draws on the company’s experience in oil extraction and industrial facility operations, supporting the facility’s development and expanding its production and operational impact.

Hashem Shashaa, Country Manager of Tiryaki Syria, said the company had completed four months of operations since taking over the facility. During this period, it refined 600 tonnes of crude oil and supplied the output to the Syrian market.

The oil refining line currently has a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. The development plan targets an increase to 150 tonnes per day by early 2027, followed by production capacity of 350 tonnes per day in a third phase. The plans also include introducing soybean extraction and crude soybean oil production to help meet domestic market demand and create export opportunities.

The facility currently employs 150 people, all of whom are Syrian nationals, with a target of increasing the workforce to 250 as operations and production stages expand.

The Fund continues to monitor implementation of the partnership and the facility’s development plans, with a focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening domestic production, expanding employment opportunities, and connecting industrial assets with market needs and Syria’s agricultural and food value chains.
