Syrian Sovereign Fund Receives Naguib Sawiris to Discuss Investment Opportunities in Syria
The Syrian Sovereign Fund received Egyptian businessman and investor Naguib Sawiris in Damascus during his visit to Syria in June 2026. The meeting formed part of the Fund’s engagement with Arab and international investors and its efforts to discuss investment prospects in the Syrian market.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on possible areas of cooperation and the requirements for assessing investment projects in an organised manner. It also reflected the importance of moving from general market interest to a clearer evaluation of opportunities based on technical, financial and legal criteria.
The visit came within the Fund’s broader efforts to expand communication channels with the business community and introduce its role in managing and investing assets within its mandate. The Fund seeks to build partnerships with investors who can bring capital, operational experience and management expertise when viable opportunities with clear economic value are identified.
Naguib Sawiris has investment experience across several sectors and markets, including telecommunications, investment, real estate development and services. This provided a basis for a general discussion on investment opportunities, their requirements and the practical steps needed to develop them into projects that can be studied and, where appropriate, implemented.
Sawiris’s visit reflects the Fund’s interest in listening to investors and developing practical relationships with Arab and international business expertise. It forms part of a gradual approach focused on realistic opportunity assessment, confidence-building and a clearer, more organised investment cooperation environment in Syria.
